Course Descriptions (brief)
Accounting I & II*
- This course will cover practices used for sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporate businesses. The accounting principles will be applied while working with double entry accounting forms.
Advanced Marketing
Applied Business Projects
Business Assistant/Tutor
- Assist instructor in computer lab by trouble shooting hardware problems, helping students with software applications and computer operations, and other duties as requested by the teacher.
Business Law & Ethics
- This class includes the study of the history of laws, types of laws, and ethics. The main content of the course deals with laws as they relate business and commerce.
Business Math I & II*
- The Business Mathematics course will teach students Business and Math knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. The curriculum will help students fulfill their future roles as citizens, consumers, employees, employers, investors, and entrepreneurs. The Business Math Education curriculum offers multiple opportunities to develop, use, and integrate computation skills into consumer education, economics, personal finance, marketing, management information technology, accounting, career development, and entrepreneurship.
- Both I and II are required for 2+2 credit.
CAFE*
- Careers, Computing Applications and Financial Essentials This course is the ideal starting point for anyone interested in learning computer and Internet basics. The program gives individuals sufficient Internet and computing literacy skills to enter current job markets or begin higher education programs. Students will have an opportunity to learn and demonstrate computer and Internet literacy that accurately validates skills and productivity in the workplace, and prepares students for completion of the IC3 Certification exams.
- Development of the computer competency skills will involve production of documents and research related to: keyboarding skills, career exploration, personal finance basics, personal management, problem solving, communication, teamwork, and habits of success and employment foundations. In addition, students will complete a career/interest inventory, and begin or continue to build upon their Career Portfolio that enables them to determine areas of interest and possible career pathways.
Computer Graphics (Photoshop CS3)*
Desktop Publishing and Web Page Design
- Students will learn how to use desktop publishing software to create flyers, newsletters, and other material. Web Page Design will provide students with the skills for encoding personal and small business web pages.
Dreamweaver*
Financial Management
- This class is designed to develop students’ understanding of themselves as consumers, worker, and citizen. Discussion, simulations, and projects include career preparation, banking, financial planning and other activities.
HTML*
Independent Study
- This is a class by teacher suggestion and approval only. Selected student with an interest in advanced course studies related to business and technology may qualify for an opportunity to register for this class. Only highly motivated self directed learners who have completed preparatory courses with exceptional performance are accepted. Course topics include but are not limited to: C++ Programming, Visual Basic, PHP and MySQL, Advanced Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, Advanced Dreamweaver/Web Design and Entrepreneurship. Intro Into Business & Careers*
- Expose students to selected aspects of business. This course will assist students in decision making of future elective classes and career goals. Most topics covered will be offered to the students in more depth and detail in business classes at HVHS. Topics covered including Microsoft Office, ethics, entrepreneurship, accounting, careers, and more.
Keyboarding
Marketing I & II*
- Do you have an interest in a career in business? Would you like to learn how to prepare advertisements, display merchandise, operate a cash register, perform inventories, and organize a future company of your own? If so, this class is for you. Marketing I is an introduction to business through discussion, projects and activities. You will be required to gain practical experience by working in the school store, exploring career opportunities and completing a business simulation on the computer. Business ethics and social responsibilities are emphasized.
Marketing in America
- This course is an advanced business course designed to study the vast field of marketing, and its unique place as a driving force behind the political, cultural and economic environment in American culture. Building upon the foundation of creativity from Microsoft Office, students will examine, critique and create marketing strategies using the Office Suite programs. In conjunction with analyzing marketing efforts in a variety of industries, students will examine the effects marketing has upon American society, and individual actions in an attempt to become more aware of the permeation marketing has achieved in our consumerist society.
Marketing Management
- This course is offered for highly motivated students interested in leadership or management in a business setting. Business career oriented students will set their own goals and contact with the instructor to develop leadership skills in projects that are based at the supervisory level. Students will have the opportunity to develop these skills through student store management, and group or individual marketing projects.
Microsoft Office Suite*
- This class will introduce student to the operational use of computer program applications. This course will include computer literacy, a keyboard graphical presentation. Students will use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Personal Finance*
- The personal finance course teaches students all of the basics of financial independence. Students learn how to balance a check book, handle their finances, as well as the finances of a family and much more.
Recordkeeping I & II
- Record Keeping I covers working with records, personal banking, personal budgeting, credit records, and receiving cash. Recordkeeping II covers cashier activities, records for small businesses, petty cash and travel records, business banking records, payroll, tax records, and payroll reports.
Sports and Entertainment Marketing
- This course is an advanced business course designed to study the vast field of marketing, and applying those concepts to the sports industry in American culture. Exploring the multi-billion-dollar sports industry will open avenues to study the political, cultural and economic environment that sports has created in American culture. Building upon the foundation of creativity from Microsoft Office, students will examine, critique and create marketing strategies using the Office Suite of programs. In conjunction with analyzing marketing efforts in a variety of industries, students will examine the effects marketing has upon American society, and individual actions in an attempt to become more aware of the permeation sports marketing has achieved in our consumerist society.
